What is Ecological Design?

Fairbank Ecological Design provides a whole systems approach to property management, addressing the ecological context of the landscape you call home. In addition to fine design, we deliver projects that remediate stormwater, conserve soil and water resources, and provide native ecosystem services to the fragile Cape Cod environment. It is our philosophy that incorporating conservation into our everyday landscaping is not only the right thing to do but also the more practical, economical, and sustainable. Explore the Fairbank way of managing your property, bringing your home to nature's doorstep.

Start your own 'Homegrown National Park!'

Doug Tallamy's recent book, Bringing Nature Home provides the philosophy behind our conservation mission. U.S. National Parks are beloved for the protection they provide to much of our threatened habitat. The problem is that they are all disconnected by swaths of suburban sprawl while much of the habitat they are trying to support requires connectivity. Tallamy's solution is for us all to create our own homegrown parks on our properties, providing essential habitat corridors between these protected spaces.

At Fairbank Ecological Design, we incorporate this idea into your larger landscaping goals. (Picture at right: a male Swallowtail butterfly pollinating a Lilac bush).
